Piping in Burns Night 2013

Darlene would like all the step dancers to bring their shoes for Burns night as we always have a group step dance during the evening.
Joyce Cummings is looking for full size fiddles, she knows of a couple of people looking to buy.
The temperature seems to be indicating a great Burns Night 🙂 [this Friday and Sunday]

Katherine Moller CD launch in Woodstock on Friday, December 6th

Hi Garold,

I was wondering if you could help me get the word out about a CD launch I am doing in Woodstock on Friday, December 6th.

This coming season is all about giving, and now is your chance to both give and receive at the same time!

On Friday, December 6th, Katherine Moller, ECMA and multiple Music NB award nominee, will be releasing her 4th fiddle CD, “Greensleeves & Puddin’ Pies”. This CD of traditional seasonal music and original pieces is going to be sold as a fundraiser with all proceeds going to local food banks in this time of need.

Please join us at the Celtic Fox Cafe (37 Clark St., Woodstock) at 7:00pm, and help us make someone else’s season a little bit easier.

Please come out and help support a worthy cause and receive some great music in return.

For more information contact Katherine Moller at 440-3123 or katherine@katherinemoller.ca

You can also order CDs online at http://www.katherinemoller.ca

Thanks for your help!

Fiddle classes start Oct. 2/ upcoming events

Hi Folks
We will be starting classes again at the Church Hall on Oct 2. For Oct 2 come at the same time you did last year and we will set new times when we see who shows up for this year. If you know of people planning to start, pass the word along.

This Saturday Sept 28th we will be playing on the street in Caribou at 11:30 AM(us time), 12:30 PM (ca time), we should be there 1/2 hr early to get tuned and ready. We will probably wear our white shirts unless it turns cold, we can check the forecast and decide on Wednesday. And of course, it is always nice to have some of the young people and dancers with us as well. They have a portable covered stage for us but I don’t know the exact location yet, they are going to let me know. Maybe they will just tow us around town

Our Fiddle-Doo is coming up on Oct 5 at the Legion, have attached a poster you may want to put up to help with the promotion.
Thanks Garold

Note from the road

Hi Everyone
Just a note to let you know we have made it to Nashville, and haven’t lost anyone yet. Great group, everyone seems to be having a good time. Contrary to media reports, Nashville is not flooded, although we have had some fairly heavy showers. We spent a few hours at the Opry Mill tonight to get the shopping thing taken care of for a day or two, and Dorothy and I dropped by the Willie Nelson Museum for a quick look.
Last night in Lexington, we entertained the motel guests with some old time and Gospel tunes, enjoyable evening. After three days on the road everyone is looking forward to a bit of a rest, although tomorrow will be a busy day with a Back Stage tour of the Opry, Hall of Fame tour and a visit to the Ryman. And of course Sat night at the Opry and the Midnight Jamboree. We are hoping for good weather so we can do a bit of a walking tour around Broadway as well.
Fortunately our motel is next door to the Midnight Jamboree so we can come and go as we please. Sunday we will travel to Pigeon Forge for a few days.
Hope all is well back home.

Pick up our new CD at the Wednesday jam sessions or at our performances.
$15.00 (we will mail copies for an extra $5.00 shipping and handling — includes our trip to the post office and maybe we’ll get an ice cream at Carl’s too) Seriously, proceeds support WEF projects including sending our young folks to fiddle camp. Thank you.

Gospel music has always been a part of the Wednesday Evening Fiddlers repertoire, so to celebrate our 25th season we decided to record a Gospel album. We have included a number of Gospel standards that will be familiar to everyone.

During Feb 2013 the fiddlers spent two Saturdays at the St James United Church Hall in Perth-Andover recording the album. Included in the 30 participants were a number of our young fiddlers, and 6-year-old Emma McLaughlin led the group off on This Little Light of Mine. Since a number of our group are also great vocalists we included voices in some of the selections

A special Thank-You to Larry Adams and Paige Lavoie for doing Bass and Piano accompaniment, Mark White and Cathy Adams for contributing photos, Bill Duncan for  photos & design, and all the fiddlers who helped with the project.
